Pallottine Prayer Network
The Pallottine Prayer Network consists of a group of men and women, young and old, lay and religious, willing to set aside a few minutes each day to pray for the needs of people, the Church and the world.
February 2012For Patience with Those We Meet Today
All of us feel out-of-sorts at times and find it hard to be patient even with ourselves. If that is the case, then I'm sure that being patient with others may be even harder to do. There are many things that get on our nerves: the pressures and responsibilites at work, the kids who are too noisy, the dog that won't stop barking, and a bundle of bills that just came in the mail. It doesn't take all that much to put us in a very impatient mood.
Of course there are many ways to help lessen the stress and tension levels in our lives. Hopefully we make use of some of them, especially when we're not "ourselves". Find a quiet place to be alone for a while, walk away from a bad situation and come back to it a little later, close your eyes and just take a short nap. The list is endless as to what may help us.
I would like to suggest one other "thing" we could do -- place our problems, tensions, etc. into God's hands. Let Him know what's going on in our lives and making us less patient with others and ask for His help is this regard.
Prayer for Patience with Those We Meet Today
L. Let not the trials and troubles of life,
R. Disturb the tranquility of your spirit.
Lord Jesus, as we read the Gospel story of how you turned over the tables of the moneychangers and drove the merchants out of the temple area, we are reminded how hard it can be sometimes for us to be patient with those we come in contact with each day.
Help us to control our emotions and show patience with others even though we may feel justified in treating them harshly or in losing our tempers. Remind us often that we too are far from perfect and often cause others to become angry and impatient with us.
We ask you to teach us to be humble and charitable toward others even when it may seem so hard to do. Help us find an inner peace of spirit so that the words and actions of others will not upset us so much.
To you be glory and honor without end.
Amen.
